Some smaller creatures can be kept in Containment Units and will produce resources. Larger creatures cannot be tamed but can be avoided or harvested from a safe distance. The Cuddlefish is probably the cutest pet option - I always hatch one on every save.
What are the most dangerous creatures?
Leviathan-class creatures are the deadliest. Reaper Leviathans near the Aurora, Ghost Leviathans in the Void, and Sea Dragon Leviathans in the Lava Zone are the "big three" threats. In my experience, the Ghost Leviathans scare me way more than Reapers - they're just so big and quiet.

Most small creatures respawn after a few in-game days. Leviathans typically do not respawn once killed, making each encounter permanent. What I found surprising: I killed a Reaper thinking it would respawn... nope. That area is just empty now lol.
